For foreign nationals, the process of obtaining parental rights in the UAE is most commonly implemented through a guardianship mechanism, as the classical Western model of full adoption is applied in a limited manner. Government authorities conduct a comprehensive assessment of the family, including financial stability, legality of income sources, housing conditions, age of the parents, marital status, and the ability to provide long-term support to the child. The procedure involves administrative reviews, interviews, submission of supporting documentation, and coordination with relevant authorities. For expatriates, the process may differ from that of their home country due to the specific regulatory framework of the UAE. International Adoption

Once a foreign decision has been issued, it must be formally recognized in the UAE.
